A Crescent of Fire – The 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse Over San Antonio
A breathtaking crescent of orange sunlight emerges as the Moon passes across the Sun during the annular solar eclipse of October 14, 2023, photographed from northeastern San Antonio, Texas. The Moon's dark silhouette nearly fills the solar disk, leaving a brilliant, symmetrical arc of sunlight against the black sky as the eclipse approaches its famous Ring of Fire phase. A small sunspot is visible near the right edge of the illuminated crescent. Captured by James Engel using a Nikon D850 and Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at 1700mm, this striking image reveals the extraordinary beauty of celestial alignment.
