The Ring of Fire – A Brilliant Crescent During the 2023 Annular Solar Eclipse
A breathtaking view of the October 14, 2023, annular solar eclipse over northeastern San Antonio, Texas, as the Moon nearly completely obscures the Sun. A brilliant orange crescent curves around the Moon's dark silhouette, forming an extraordinary, almost complete Ring of Fire against the blackness of space. The varying thickness of the illuminated arc captures a fleeting moment near maximum eclipse, when the Moon and Sun appear nearly perfectly aligned. Photographed through a Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at 1700mm with a Nikon D850 and solar filter, this striking image reveals the remarkable beauty and precision of celestial motion.
