Sculpted Edge of the Painted Desert
From the rim of Arizona’s Petrified Forest National Park, deeply eroded badlands tumble into the vast Painted Desert below. Jagged gray ridges and weathered sandstone cliffs frame a maze of dry washes and layered earth stretching toward the distant horizon. Sparse desert vegetation clings to the rocky foreground, adding touches of life to a landscape shaped over immense spans of time by erosion, wind, and water.
